Alstom Transport develops and markets a complete range of systems, equipment and service in the railway industry. It is one of the world's largest manufacturers of high-speed trains, tramways and metros, electrical and diesel trains, information systems, traction systems, power supply systems and track work. The company also operates in the rail infrastructure market, designing, producing and installing infrastructure for the rail network. These includes information solutions, electrification, communication systems, track laying, station utilities, as well as workshops and depots. Maintenance, rebuilding, and renovation services are also provided by the company. Alstom Transport operates in 70 countries and employs 26,000 people.
Notable products includes series production of the TGV high-speed trains with over 650 train sets sold over 25 years, as well as the AGV (Automotrice Grande Vitesse) unveiled in February 2008 and which entered service with NTV in Italy in 2012. Since a merger with General Railway Signal in 1998, Alstom has been manufacturing railway signaling equipment at a former GRS factoring located in a suburb near Rochester, New York.
Since 2002, Alstom has manufactured the Pendolino tilting train, following the acquisition of Fiat Ferroviaria.

AnsaldoBreda S.p.A. is a loss-making rail transport engineering company based in Italy. The company designs and manufactures railway and mass transit vehicles and is part of the Finmeccanica group. On 24 February 2015, Hitachi announced it had entered into an agreement to buy AnsaldoBreda from Finmeccanica.
In 1853, the company Gio. Ansaldo & C. was registered in Genoa as a manufacturer of steam locomotives, rail rolling stock and steam engines. Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) is a Spanish private company which manufactures railway vehicles and equipment. It is based in Beasain in the Basque Country. Equipment manufactured by CAF includes light rail vehicles, rapid transit trains, railroad cars and locomotives, as well as variable gauge axles that can be fitted on any existing truck or bogie.
Over the 20 years from the early 1990's, CAF benefitted from the rail investment boom in its home market in Spain to become a world player with a broad technical capability, able to manufacture almost any type of rail vehicle. CAF has supplied railway rolling stock to a number of major urban transit operators around Europe, the USA, South America, East Asia, India and North Africa.
Hyundai Rotem is a South Korean company manufacturing rolling stock, defense products and plant equipment. It is part of the Hyundai Motor Group. Its name was changed to the current one from Rotem on December 2007, and later changed to Hyundai Rotem to reflect its owner.
Notable projects include supplying most of South Korea's rolling stock, which include Korail's KTX high speed trains, Electric multiple units, and Electric locomotives. Other products in South Korea includes supplying all of Seoul Metro, Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit, and Shinbundang Line's Electric multiple units. International products include Hong Kong MTR's K-Stocks, commuter EMUsfor Taiwan, trains for the New Delhi Metro, and automated trains for the Canada Line between downtown Vancouver and Richmondin British Columbia, Canada. They are also to supply the Silverliner V commuter trains for SEPTA Regional Rail in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. The Philippine National Railways have partnered with Hyundai Rotem to upgrade and construct its train and stations in the Luzon island for convenience and fast transportation; the trains have been delivered and are currently in service.
Hitachi Rail is involved in designing and manufacturing many models of Shinkansen vehicles, including the N700 Series Shinkansen and the THSR 700T for Taiwan High Speed Rail.
Hitachi markets a general-purpose train known as the "A-train", which utilises double-skin friction stir welded aluminium body construction. The A-train concept can be customized to form a commuter train like the automated 3000 series train for the Nanakuma Line, a limited express train like the E257 series, or a high-speed train such as the Class 395 operating in the UK. In June 2008, Hitachi also submitted a tender for the UK's Intercity Express Programme.
Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries agreed to cooperate in the field of international intra-city railway systems in 2010.
